This design was created for Ellia Rose - what a cutie! The photos were enhanced to look their best --- like they were shot in a pro studio! The foot photo spelling 'love' is a sweet idea. I think it would be cute as a large enhancement, too! Imagine a large framed image of this over a crib - too adorable.

Newest themed photo birthday invite. Welcome to the circus! This was fun to create - I did quite a bit of research on old circus posters for inspriation. (And now I want to find some to frame for my home!)

But for this design, for cute little Keagan, I created a 'ticket', and used the date of the party for the 'ticket number'. Then I 'aged' the numbers and writing. Top it off with fun circus-like fonts, balloons and a curtained stage, and the fun is ready to begin!

Sometimes my birth announcement and adoption announcement customers are surprised that I also create themed cards for any occasion.

But I can --- and I love it! I've created princess cards, cuban-theme cards, hawaii 5-0 themed cards, dora the explorer-like themed cards, construction themed birthday cards, flip-flop themed bridal shower invites, sesame street-like themed cards... you get the idea. Themed photo invitations & cards are alot of fun for me. Sometimes they even stretch my creativity and photoshop & illustrator skills. I learn something new every time! Here is the cars-themed invitation I did recently for Michael, a cars enthusiast. I hope he approves!

Spring has arrived!

Wow, I never thought I'd see green again. But like magic, on March 22 when I returned from a wedding in Tucson, there was only a smidge of snow left by the mailbox. And here it is almost a month later, and things are catching up to the season. The trees and spring flowers are blooming. I've got my lettuce planted (rocket/arugula -- my favorite!), and am looking forward to preparing the garden for other veggies. I'm hoping I'll have success growing basil this year. Every year I try, and every year I find my thumb is far from green!

I've been busy with my storefront, getting designs done for my local customers, plus my online customers. We've introduced several different products, like making edible photo designs for cakes, and new lines like high quality photo albums! It's fun for me to see the store evolve. I just can't wait until I can improve it. I have big dreams! One day.

Right now I'm working on a photo adoption announcement for a sweet girl adopted from China, a photo birth announcement for twins, plus a bridal shower invitation. It's been bridal shower invitation week --- I guess it is that time of year! It's been fun coming up with fun & unique designs to feature some unique themes (sunflowers & flip-flops for one!).

Right around the corner is summer, which always brings lots of new babies to the world. That means more gorgeous babies to announce! Time to enjoy the sun, and renew myself to make it through the next Iowa winter...

Holiday Photo Cards - New Designs!

The rest of summer flew by, and here we are getting ready for Christmas. Orders are coming in --- and I've been reminded I am past due for a blog update! Here are some favorite holiday photo card designs --- five of the 35 available for 2009! And of course there is always the custom option if you'd like something created just for you. Holiday cards are available in the flat, 1-sided photo paper option, the flat, 2-sided thicker coverstock option as well as a folded holiday card option.

Check out all your holiday photo card design options for 2009! And the best news? Holiday cards are ON SALE! You'll get 20% off your photo paper orders, and 10% off your coverstock orders! The sale will last through the season, but make sure you order early (you can send photos later if you'd like). This will ensure your place on our proofing schedule. If we need to cut off orders at any time, we will announce this on our site.

We will accept orders through 12/20, but we will suggest at some point that orders are "Happy New Year" cards instead of Christmas cards when it would be impossible for you to mail your cards in time for 12/25 arrival. Birth announcements...oh my!?

I have been remiss posting designs to the blog this year --- buying a new business downtown has driven me to forgetfulness...and I've found myself spending free time getting signage up in the store, learning how to run the printer/processor, developing film, training employees, etc. My to-do list is ridiculously long and I feel like I'm running an uphill marathon! But I won't complain about my list; I am lucky to have work and to have customers.

I've designed lovely (if I do say so myself!) birth announcements & adoption announcements this year, as well as birthday invitations and wedding thank you notecards. I'll get some examples up in the next few weeks.

What's coming up? Hopefully things will settle down into a routine this year. For now, we're busy getting things ready for our trip. We'll leave for France at the end of June. My husband has a grant for summer research travel, so I'll design from Dijon (see my Dijon site at www.lisasdotcom.com but it is quite outdated at this point!), plus will work on updating my Dijon website! My employees at the store will run PhotoSynthesis (my new storefront)...I have complete confidence in them. Plus they will ship Chouette Design orders for me! It's a little different than the last time I worked from France five years ago....this time my apartment in Dijon has wireless! Last time I was running back and forth between our cottage and the internet cafe. Ah how time heals technology deficiencies! I will still expect hiccups; I haven't lost my *entire* mind. And I thought I'd take this opportunity to check out Skype. I'll check in via webcam with the store once a week for some face-time. Ah, another thing to add to my list: get info on Skype!

It has been a couple months since we've posted. I mentioned a couple months back about my excuse! To explain a bit further, in late November, I found out the professional photo lab we used to print our photo announcements was going out of business. Since I had been thinking of expanding Chouette Design, and since I loved the downtown location of the lab, my husband and I decided to go for it...and opened up a new business in downtown Ames called PhotoSynthesis. Located at 317 Main Street, PhotoSynthesis is still a professional lab as we now own all the assets of the former business, but it's even better! I have expanded the lab business to include the exclusive photo announcements previously only available on-line through Chouette Design. PhotoSynthesis also offers photo restorations and enhancements, stretched and mounted canvas, passport photos (came in handy for me already!), photo jewelry, & more!

The store at 317 Main houses Chouette Design Group as well as PhotoSynthesis. We've been working hard the last several months getting the store in shape. Hours upon hours of cleaning and painting later...we celebrated our grand opening 3/17. So 317 Main Day shares a day with St. Patrick. Here are a few pictures from the store!

A work in progress to be sure (you can't even begin to believe the condition the second floor is in...!), we will slowly get the store into shape. We'll post photos as we make more progress!
